Hi, I'm John!

I am a Chicago native, and graduated from a magnet school of excellence program in the Chicago Public Schools. Growing up, my mom took time to find Saturday and summer workshops that I could take part in at Chicago's world-class museums, libraries, zoos, and aquariums... something I still remember as a highlight of growing up in the city.

Professionally, my area of focus has been on strategies that lead to better outcomes for students, schools, and communities— better climates to work, study, and live.

For five years, I had the privilege of serving as a trainer in a statewide program that helped teachers integrate inquiry and dialogue into their science classrooms. I've been able to serve a wide group of educators by providing 1:1 coaching for several years. I've also been able to work in my local community on various civic projects and change initiatives.

One seed planted early in my career was the importance of professional associations. Through national and international networks, we find inspiration, education, and support when taking on challenging tasks. Another seed planted early was an interest in rigorous quality improvement. One of my first education professors at UIC was a consultant who assessed school practices and systems, and worked with others on systemic solutions that improve school climates for students and communities. Since 2016, I have been doing some of the same work.

I believe in the power of partnerships! Building relationships inside and outside an organization awakens fresh thinking, so many new possibilities, and embraces diverse perspectives. I had a key experience in this, when I served as coordinator of a middle school mentoring partnership with the University of Notre Dame lacrosse team that was nationally recognized.

Five years before the start of the pandemic and much of the world went virtual, I joined a geographically-dispersed, all-remote organization at TRECA. Working with high-performing teams at TRECA has shown me the way to lead success in digital teams and organizations.

I currently live in the Columbus, Ohio area. I stay busy with my friends and family, pets, and community involvement. Most years I coach youth lacrosse in the spring!
